The last two books of this series were frustrating due to a lack of depth in the story lines though still entertaining and were shorter than earlier books in the series. This installment however amassed much more detail in the story line and has better follow through on the plot while maintaining the premise of the series. The action sequences are fuller and more thought through, even more believable than earlier episodes! The author seemed to add more personal depth to the interactions of the main characters which allows the reader to relate better to the humanity of the characters during a high pressure wartime scenario. He also allows the reader to see some of the mistakes that were made by the "powers that were" which helps the reader understand the difficulties of leadership during that era. I thoroughly enjoyed this "episode" of Raising Forces and am excited to see what the next will bring.Product details

Africa 1941 Raiding Forces Volume 9 Phil Ward 9780996816656 Books Reviews
Another fine story in the Raiding Forces series, this time set in North Africa. It has a nice balance of action, intrigue and thought. My only regret is it will be a while before we get the next installment!
Entire read was excellent, great fun, good intertwine of events, positive injected humor. Phil Ward does an excellent job telling the story and use of the entire Raiding Forces men, women and assets. Bring on the next installment. Can hardly wait.
These are really fun reads and if you've gone through the series at this point it is visiting with old friends. I think Phil Ward is developing his sense of humor even more in this book than in the first books and it adds to the charm of this excellent series. I look forward to number 10.
Leaves a lot to be desired in moving the story forward. Author seems intent on being a historian rather than a writer of action fiction. Hopefully, as he ends the story with the attack on Pearl Harbor, America's entry will move the action back to the front of the story.
Not so much action as previous books, and what there is seems a little contrived. Mostly the same characters, but it's fun to see an occasional historical figure appear (Popski in this one). Book ends on December 7, so any continuation will be interesting. Hope they all stay with the Brits.
One of the stronger episodes in the series. Plot moves along and Randal is beginning to act as a senior officer. Raiding Forces has got its swagger back, after some setbacks. The author has also captured the atmosphere of overconfidence and the lack of communication in Cairo at the start of the disastrous Operation Crusader very well. Recommended.
To be honest, the last Raiding Forces book left a LOT of material out which makes Mr. Wards books really enjoyable to read. HOWEVER, he redeemed himself in this book. There is more description, more flavor, more STORY in this latest saga of the Raiding Forces.
I'm, once again, looking forward to reading the next book!
